Daily Devo: June 20, Grumbling to grace
Daily Devotional to begin our day the right way! |
Memory THIS week: Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Psalms 141:3
Memory last week verse: Bless the Lord O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits. Psalms 103:1-2
What did we decide yesterday, are we the wise man or the fool? What does it matter anyway, right? Actually, it matters A LOT! God hears EVERY SINGLE WORD WE SAY and it makes Him angry when we complain as if He has not provided what we already need.
Look at Numbers 11:1, 10, 33
All those verses say God was ANGRY. Do you want to be responsible for making the God of the universe, the KING OF KINGS, the ALPHA AND OMEGA angry?!? Yeah, me neither.
But wait, isn’t God a God of love? Read Jerimiah 31:18-19.
So, it took a while for it to sink in, but that’s what we call “hindsight”. God disciplines those He loves. I'm pretty sure as a mom, I have told my children this at least a gazillion times (I'm positive that's an actual number). What seems like all the harsh punishments in the wilderness for “complaining” was discipline and correction.
Now Read Jeremiah 31:2-4.
They found “grace”. Among the harshness of the punishment and their own stinky attitudes, they found grace and God’s “everlasting” love. We so often miss this same thing in our hard times (which we bring onto ourselves I might add) just like the Israelites until we look BACK over our lives.
Spend some time reflecting on your life over the past several weeks. Think of some times when your attitude has caused you to miss out on the good stuff. What have your learned from this? Has it made you even more mad or have you learned lessons about changing how you treat others? Has God begun to work on your heart in learning that loving others is more than just saying “I love you”, it’s also showing them by how you treat them?
**Remember, without prayer and Bible study it’s like standing with your back to the biggest food buffet that has ever existed and then having someone else describe the food without ever actually eating any. Your spirit will starve because you failed to feed it. If God is the most important thing in your life, then you must treat Him as the most important thing in your life.
