Bonus: Defy the Darkness

I saw the trailer for Wonder Woman and I was caught with the bug of excitement to see it. A woman warrior who takes down evil, who wouldn't get caught up in that? I mean wow! I am at home just trying to keep the tiny humans alive and she's out "saving the world". Now, I was never a big fan of all the normal stuff so Superman, Spiderman, and all of that is not anything that crosses my mind on a normal basis. I'm a nerd, but not that kind of nerd. When I watch the movies or even the TV shows I get it though. Everyone wants what those superheroes have. Everyone wants to defeat the evil that messes up this world and usher in some justice. That's why we love our cop shows and doctor shows and superhero shows. We love to see the world "fixed" and set right in the middle of chaos and darkness.
So here I was this morning, reading Isaiah 49 and I read this:

for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord,
    and my God has become my strength—
 he says:
“It is too light a thing that you should be my servant
    to raise up the tribes of Jacob
    and to bring back the preserved of Israel;
I will make you as a light for the nations,
    that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.” vs.5b-6(emphasis mine)

YEEESSSS!!!! Read that again! "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant" and "I will make you a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth." Did someone say they wanted a superhero kind of call? My heart was leaping out of my chest as I read all of chapter 49. I kept thinking to myself "Now this is what warrior stuff is made of. THIS!" We don't need a silly cape or weird tiara/headband (seriously who designed her outfit because that is totally unrealistic for a woman's hair). We need the call of the LORD which has ALREADY BEEN GIVEN throughout Scripture!!

The Lord called me from the womb,
    from the body of my mother he named my name.
He made my mouth like a sharp sword;
    in the shadow of his hand he hid me;
he made me a polished arrow;
    in his quiver he hid me away. Is 49:1b-2

So you want to defeat evil? Then rise up and defeat it! Whether you are a stay at home mom raising the next generation of disciples or a teacher shining a light in the darkness or a nurse or a food provider or a cashier acting as the hands and feet of God, RISE UP. Stand on the Rock you have been grounded on, hold firm to the sword of truth and go with the boldness of the Spirit you have been filled with. God made you the original Wonder Woman; Own it. He has given us as a light to the nations, so go on warriors, defy the darkness!
